Frame sizes for men and women
The frame size of a bike refers to the length of the vertical tube in the frame, measured in centimetres.
This size is determined based on your height. However, adding a single size chart to our website isn’t straightforward. Each manufacturer has its own sizing guidelines, and these may even vary between different bike models.
To determine the optimal frame size, we recommend contacting us or visiting one of our bike shops .
Frame size for children
Determining the right bike size for children is much simpler. Instead of focusing on frame size, the wheel size is the most important factor. Wheel size is always measured in inches. Below is an overview of children's bike sizes:
- Ages 2 - 4: 12-inch wheel size
- Ages 3 - 5: 14-inch wheel size
- Ages 4 - 6: 16-inch wheel size
- Ages 5 - 7: 18-inch wheel size
- Ages 6 - 8: 20-inch wheel size
- Ages 8 - 12: 24-inch wheel size
- Ages 12 - 14: 26-inch wheel size
Calculate your own frame size
You can also determine the frame size of your road bike or speed pedelec yourself. This method is often more accurate than relying solely on body height, as people of the same height may have different leg lengths.
Follow these steps to measure your ideal frame size:
- Stand with your back against a wall and place your feet 20 cm apart.
- Measure the distance from the ground to your crotch height (without wearing shoes).
- Multiply your inseam length (in cm) by 0.68 to determine your frame size.
Example calculation: your inseam is 75 centimetres. Multiply by 0.68. Your ideal frame size is 51.
If you get a decimal number, always round down to the nearest whole number. A frame that is too large can cause discomfort, such as neck and shoulder pain.
Where to find the frame size on a bike?
In the past, frame sizes were often stamped into the frame, but this is no longer common for most bike brands. To check a bike’s size yourself, measure the distance from the bottom bracket to the point where the saddle exits the frame.
