Bike trade-in: how does it work?

Ready to trade in your old e-bike? Visit one of our shops with your electric bike and the corresponding (digital) purchase invoice. Together with Upway, we’ll determine the trade-in value of your bike.

Before you head to the shop, here are a few important details to keep in mind:

  1. Only e-bikes are eligible for this promotion.
  2. Each trade-in request is valid for a maximum of two weeks. If you don’t schedule a collection appointment within this period, the application and the agreed price will be cancelled.
  3. Upway accepts only roadworthy e-bikes with normal signs of use. The bike must shift gears properly, have a functioning display, and show no cracks in the frame.

What is a roadworthy e-bike?

An e-bike that functions properly, allowing smooth switching between assist modes without producing unusual noises at up to 20 km/h and without displaying error codes. The bike should have a working display, an intact frame with no cracks, and come with at least one key and a charger.

Naturally, the bike may show normal signs of use. This includes typical wear on consumable parts such as brake pads, cables, chains, tires, pedals, and transmission components.

What determines the trade-in value of an e-bike?

The trade-in value is influenced by its condition, particularly any missing or faulty components. Issues such as a damaged battery, broken wheels, or non-functional brakes will significantly affect the trade-in price.

Cyclobility highlights several factors that can lead to a review or reduction in value:

  • Serious electronic problems, e.g. the electric support does not work properly
  • Missing electronic components, such as the key, charger, display, or battery.
  • Visible damage to the battery or motor.
  • Non-functional transmission, such as a broken cassette, crankset, or shifter.
  • Non-functional brakes, such as a warped disc, damaged brake calliper, or broken lever.
  • Damaged or bent wheels

For Speedpedelec trade-ins, the original COC (Certificate of Conformity) and registration documents are also required.
